This is an unexpected twist.
Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin is headed back to reality TV, but she's got a whole new angle this time. According to People magazine, she's channeling Judge Judy with her own brand of courtroom show, similar to Judy's famously crotchety version.
A source close to Palin reportedly told People that she signed the deal in February with the Montana-based production company Warm Springs, which will produce the show that's set to premiere next year.
"It's a production deal," the source said. "What happens next is she'll meet with stations, make a pilot and sell it."
According to the site, Palin first met with Warm Springs in 2015, when the company approached her with the idea for the show. The team behind producing Palin's new gig reportedly includes the executive who discovered Judge Judy and Judge Joe Brown.
The big difference between Palin and her TV judge predecessors is that both Judge Judy and Judge Joe Brown have law degrees, something Palin is lacking. But the source who leaked the deal to People says producers find her qualified for the gig for a number of other reasons.
"Palin's telegenic personality, wide appeal and common-sense wisdom make her a natural for this kind of format, and she was Warm Springs' top pick for this project," the insider said. The source also added that the show, which is still untitled, would air during the daytime beginning in the fall of 2017. It would be nationally syndicated, the source revealed.
